The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.  Let us remind ourselves of this test and use it throughout our daily lives.

Of the things we think, say or do:

1.  Is it the TRUTH?

2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.  Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

It is was in graduate school that I was introduced to the teachings of W. Edwards Deming.  Early in his career as an electrical engineer, he was introduced to the originator of the control chart and concepts of statistical process control.  As Deming began to apply these concepts to manufacturing, he saw how it could be applied to other processes with organizations.  This insight led to the development of a new sampling technique for the 1940 US Census.  Post-World War II, Deming traveled to Japan to assist with their census.  Deming stood out from the other American experts because he showed respect for the Japanese people and their culture and treated his counterparts as colleagues instead of vanquished enemies.  This lead to numerous lectures to engineers, managers, and scholars.  As Japanese manufacturers applied his techniques, they were able to improve quality and productivity, which returned Japan to the world economic stage.  It was the Total Quality Management initiatives in the late 70s and early 80s that brought Deming’s teaching back to the US.

I am married to Hilda Flores – my life partner – and missionary health ministries – giving away glasses in Mexico and in the world.  Many of the glasses that we give away are with resources that ReCSWUSA has provided through mini-grants.  I am an ophthalmologist, I am dedicated to the surgery of cataracts, Lasik and glaucoma.  I have three children, Lily, married, dentist and next to become a grandfather next September.  Oscar, economist, married and working for the reserve bank in Mexico City; and Carlos, the youngest, recently graduated from medical school.  The passion of my family is the love of God through service.  I am a Rotarian since 2003.

Fuchsia is a species of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees.  Fuchsia triphylla was the first of the species was discovered.  Charles Plumier, a French monk botanist found the species the Caribbean island of Hispaniola – modern day Haiti and the Dominican Republic – during his third expedition to the Greater Antilles and new genus after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs.

Australian Rotary Health

Through research and scholarships Australian Rotary Health aims to create a healthier Australia.  Meet some of the inspiring people who have received our support and are now positively impacting their communities.

Dame Ellen MacArthur is a successful solo long-distance English sailor.  In February 2005, she broke the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe, a feat which gained her international renown.  Dame MacArthur retired from professional sailing in September 2010.  In retirement, she launched the Ellen MacArthur Foundation – a charity that works with business and education to accelerate the transition to sustainable production.

As a Rotary Club that meets online, we are unable depend on the financial support from a single local community for our service projects.  As a result, weekly donations from our members and visiting Rotarians is our primary fundraiser.  From your donations, the Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA can support Rotary initiated service projects around the world.  In the spirit of Rotarian service, we ask that you make a donation.  If you are a visiting Rotarian doing a make-up, we ask that you consider an amount that be equal to your meal price at your regular Rotary meeting.
