We provide Shelter Boxes for disaster relief:
ShelterBox is a disaster relief organization started by Rotarians that provides emergency shelter and vital aid to families affected by conflict or disaster. Their aim is to help rebuild communities by offering durable shelter and the tools necessary for recovery. Their aid includes ShelterBoxes and Shelter Kits, along with other essential items like cooking sets and school supplies.
We provide books and library materials for young readers in Kenya, Africa in cooperation with From Books to Brilliance.
From Books to Brilliance is an all-volunteer non-profit that provides access to books and educational materials in underserved communities of the world. Our own club member, Kim Covill, has a leadership role in this organization and will help guide this project. We will partner with the Rotaract Club of Naivasha, Kenya.From Books to Brilliance (FBTB) received the Naivasha YMCA Public Library's April report in which they state: We continue to face a significant shortage of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) books and trained volunteer CBC teachers. This situation makes it difficult for them to borrow books for personal study, forcing us to rely on group study sessions instead. Our club will donate funds to help purchase textbooks for primary grades one to five.
We give scholarships to junior and high school students to attend RYLA.
In Rotary, RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. It's a leadership training program for young people, usually between the ages of 12 and 17, that helps them develop character, leadership skills, and learn more about Rotary. RYLA programs often involve intensive training, experiential learning, and opportunities to connect with other young leaders.
